I arranged to spend a couple of hours with Everything Everything during the soundcheck for the homecoming finale of their latest tour at Manchester Apollo.
Over the past twelve months EE have been a mainstay on my Spotify. I reacquainted myself with their back catalogue when NME sent me down to shoot their last Manchester show at the Academy back in April, and instantly fell in love with it all over again. To put it bluntly, they're a shit-hot band, writing shit-hot catchy songs, and delivering them in a shot-hot tight show.
I arrived at the Apollo mid afternoon, a short while after the gear had been loaded. Alex was already onstage, providing a very chilled sound track with his guitar and a loop pedal whilst a couple of techs were prepping the stage, and Peter was sorting his keyboards and macbooks. When the rest of the band showed 20 minutes later, the soundcheck kicked off with renditions of 5-6 EE tracks, including Distant Past and Kemosabe, which sounded HUGE.
Massively admire this band, and I'm mega grateful to them for letting me come down and get in the way. It was a great opportunity for me to try something a bit different, and also be a bit more creative in my edit. The show later on was as awesome as expected, and for anyone heading out to the Foals tour next year, get down early to catch these guys supporting. They really are shit-hot.
