There are some great bands coming out of Bradford at the minute. It's not really a renowned hot bed for musical talent - especially with the bright lights of Leeds just ten minutes down the A647 - but after a dormant few years it looks like Bradford is finally starting to get "a scene" again.
One such band flying the flag is FANS, a fantastic dark indie/noise pop trio born from the ashes of cult Bradford dance-rock band Redwire. The guys have been building a glowing reputation over the past few years, and when I finally caught them at Live at Leeds a couple of years ago I was hugely impressed: Really pounding rhythms, dirty guitar, and Ian haunting reverb-laden vocals. They just sound massive.
I met up with the guys a few weeks backs at their practice room to shoot some promos to support their forthcoming releases and shows. They had a clear idea in mind of what they were after - something a bit moody and gritty - which made my life a bit easier. I opted for some darmatic, harsh lighting and muted colours to try and get the right feeling across.
It was great to catch up with the guys again, and i'll be heading out to see them live as soon as I can.
