Future Islands @ Leeds Refectory

One of my favourite acts to shoot, at one of my favourite venues to shoot at. This was definitely a no-brainer for me.

I've shot Future Islands on two previous occasions, and both times they've been fantastic value - Samuel T Herring is up there as one of the most expressive front men I've witnessed, and always provides plenty of great photo opportunities. The Refectory was the perfect venue for their return to Leeds. Steeped in history, it has a great balance of having a fairly high capacity whilst still retaining a degree of intimacy - I've never been to a bad show there, and it was no surprise to see Future Islands sell it out so quickly.

One thing I really love about the Refectory is the deep pit, which makes getting those killer wide shots much more achievable - always good for adding some variety to the gallery.

Probably the only downside of the eve was the lack of lighting at the very front of the stage. Samuel regularly loiters at the edge of the stage to interact with the crowd, which often makes for a great spectacle with his repertoire of gestures, however this often fell into darkness. Not the end of the world, but did leave the show a little gutted that I couldn't capture some of the awesome expressions I (just about) saw. Didn't detract from an otherwise awesome night though.

Ruddy love those guys.
