Had the pleasure of being commission by the guys at Loud & Quiet to head over to Manchester to shoot the only UK date of Radiohead's "A Moon Shaped Pool" tour. Safe to say, Thom and friends did not disappoint, with a set list riddled with classics.
I was especially giddy about this show. Partly as I'd not shot many shows this year, but also because it felt like aaages since I'd last photographed Radiohead. Last time out we were treated to quite a spectacle, with a substantial lighting set up that was a dream to shoot - however having caught Radiohead's foggy headline set at Glasto a few weeks prior, I wasn't sure we'd be in for the same luck this time around.
Whilst it had been five years since I'd last shot Radiohead, my last commission at Old Trafford was even further back - over seven years - so I had no real familiarity of the venue. Thankfully there were no surprises (not sorry). Decent sized pit, daylight, not too much fog, and a fairly high stage. It was manageable, to say the least.
It was great to photograph Radiohead again, and I was fairly pleased with what I came away with. I was fortunate enough to witness some of classic Radiohead tracks too, with Let Down and Lucky making appearances in the first three, and Airbag playing as we were escorted from the pit. Finally, as we were waiting to get the Metrolink home, No Surprises rang out over Stretford. A beautiful way to end an awesome evening!
(No, they didn't play Creep.)
