On 10 May 2018 the world lost a fantastic talent. Through his songwriting, Scott Hutchison made it ok to not be ok in the most beautiful and heartbreaking of ways.
"You can mark my words, I'll make changes to Earth.-Scott Hutchison, 'Head Rolls Off'
While I'm alive, I'll make tiny changes to Earth"
I was fortunate enough to witness Scott perform with Mastersystem at The Brudenell Social Club, just short of two weeks before he passed away. Scott seemed in great spirits - he spoke excitedly about the opportunity of starting again with a new band, and he drew a huge laugh from the crowd by explaining that Leeds was going to be the closest that James (bassist) was going to get to a hometown show, as "there's no way I'm playing fucking Doncaster". It was a fantastic gig.
If I'm honest, I've been struggling with exactly how to put down on paper how I've felt ever since Scott passed away. Like so many others, it hit me really hard. But it has also inspired me do something positive.
Charity print sale
I'm releasing a limited number of commemorative prints of Scott performing at that Mastersystem show, with the proceeds from the prints going to the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH), with the hope that I too can make a "tiny change". There will be three different A3 prints available, each printed on professional crystal archive paper. Huge thanks to Andrew and the guys at DS Colour Labs for supporting with the printing. I'm really impressed with how the prints have come out!
