Strange Waves 2016
Headed over to Manchester to shoot this one-day festival at the Ritz, which boasted a stella lineup featuring The Big Moon, The Wytches, ever-energetic spaniards The Parrots and Aussie garage-psych-rock outfit King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. The calibre of the lineup was likely due to this inaugural event being a collaboration between Manchester promoters Strange Days and Now Wave (the name isn't just a play on the name of the prison).
There was a stark contrast between the two stages at the RItz. The main stage I was already familiar with - heavily backlit and colourful, fairly high stage, photopit - fairly straightforward. The second stage was a lot more 'intimate'. Tiny stage downstairs with minimal lights and a low ceiling, which presented it's own challenges. That said, it was the perfect venue for acts like Shame and The Parrots, who turned the tiny little basement venue into a manic sweatbox.
Was an awesome evening, with such a good mix of acts - I'm keen to see how they follow this next year.
