Weezer @ Manchester Academy. Finally!
Weezer are a band I've long wanted to scratch off my bucket list. I've long been a fan of their music (particularly the first couple of albums) but their appearances in the UK have been fairly rare - this was their first appearance on British soil since their appearance at Leeds Festival back in 2010.
I'd not been this excited about shooting a gig for a long time, and I was hoping that the lighting wouldn't let things down - what would have been a rare occurrence for Manchester Academy, it has to be said. Thankfully I was in luck - a fairly quiet photopit, a fairly well lit stage, and three cracking songs to open: My Name is Jonas, California Kids and Hash Pipe. I'd caught a glimpse of the set list prior to Rivers and co taking the stage. Knowing what to expect, I made sure I had all my shots nailed by the end of the second track, meaning I could enjoy the anthemic Hash Pipe like a proper fanboy.
Such a great night, and so glad I finally got to shoot these guys. Bloody love 'em.
